The eCommerce Mistakes That Kill Wealth
And How to Avoid Them
I’m still finding dust in weird and wonderful places after an incredible week unplugged at AfrikaBurn.

But while I was blissfully unplugged and dancing in the desert…
The world of e-commerce kept going 24/7.
Online stores continued making sales.
Orders kept flowing in.
Money kept moving.
And that, my lovely, is one of the most beautiful things about building assets.
Because real wealth is having assets that work for you while you live your life.
Not just while you work.
While you play.
While you travel.
While you spend time with people you love.
Because building an online store is not just about making sales.
Done well, it can become a genuine wealth-building asset.
Who we spend time with matters deeply.
It shapes:
- What we believe is possible
- What we think success looks like
- The ideas and inspiration we’re exposed to
- Our confidence
- Our self-worth
- And yes… often our net worth too
I’m pretty intentional about who I spend time with, and one of the people I absolutely love learning from is Warrick Kernes - aka the online store expert.
I’m endlessly curious, and I love asking experts one question:
“What makes the thing they specialise in successful and what can make it a dismal failure?”
Because success is rarely random.
It’s a skill.
And when it comes to building an online store, there are a few very clear things that separate stores that quietly make money… from stores that quietly drain money.
So I asked Warrick…
What are the biggest mistakes people make when setting up an e-commerce store?
And his answer was simple.
The 3 eCommerce Mistakes That Kill Wealth
1. Choosing the wrong product
This is the big one.
So many people choose products emotionally instead of strategically.
They sell something because:
- they like it
- it feels fun
- it sounds trendy
- or they assume “people will buy it”
But profitable online stores are not built on guesswork.
They’re built on understanding:
- Demand
- Customer behaviour
- Market gaps
- Buying psychology
A beautiful product means nothing if nobody wants to buy it.
2. Having a store that doesn’t convert
This is where people spend hours making things look pretty…
But forget the actual purpose of the store.
Your online store is not meant to be:
❌ A digital scrapbook
❌ A pretty hobby
❌ A creative distraction
It’s meant to:
✅ Generate profit
✅ Support your lifestyle
✅ Build wealth
A successful store needs to convert visitors into buyers.
That means:
- Clear messaging
- Strong product positioning
- Trust
- Simplicity
- Easy user experience
Because if people land on your site and don’t buy?
You don’t have a business.
You have an expensive online brochure.
3. Not having enough traffic
Even the best online store cannot make sales if nobody sees it.
And this is where many people get stuck.
They build the store… and then wait.
But eCommerce success requires traffic.
Consistent, quality traffic.
People who are actually interested in what you sell.
Which means understanding:
- Marketing
- Audience building
- Content
- Visibility
- Customer acquisition
Because traffic is what creates opportunity.
So I used my powers of persuasion (AKA friendship credit) - and asked Warrick to do a session for my Wealth Builder Club members on..
How to Build an Online Store that
Actually Makes Money.
And he did.
It was so great, I asked his permission to share the recording with you, and he said yes!
>>> Go here to watch this powerful session where Warrick Kernes shares the 3-part formula for building a successful online store, and shows you how to:
- Find a winning product that sells
- Create a store with a high conversion rate,
- Drive quality traffic to the store to get sales.
He also spoke about GEO - GEO is like SEO, but it’s Generative Engine Optimisation.
AI seems to captivate people these days. In a lot of cases, it's just a distraction, but in the world of eCommerce, it really is significant, and it’s levelling the playing field whereby the more established sellers don’t have the same advantage over start-up and scale-up stores.
Warrick talked about how, when you do GEO correctly, you can get the AI agents to recommend your products over those of your competitors.
This session is all about what you need to do to make your e-commerce a success, and then next week, you actually do it.

P.S The information in this training is the exact strategy that Warrick uses for his own eCommerce stores, which started as something small in his spare time and quickly grew into a business with sales of over $90,000 per month. That’s over R1 Million per month!😱
P.P.S - and Warrick is a passionate nature lover like me too, and a “sh*t-hot birder - that's the feathered kind ;)
